Have A Positive Impact on the Gulf
by Wyland, President of the Wyland FoundationMy team and I have been traveling around the country for years to share our passion for protecting the environment with everybody who will listen. We work year round on programs to support education and information to teach people about protecting our oceans and watersheds. By now, most of you know only too well that we are facing one of the biggest environmental disasters of all time in the Gulf of Mexico. Millions of gallons of oil are pouring into the gulf every week. The effects of this disaster will be felt by everyone in the nation for years to come. We can’t change what’s already happened. But we're here to tell you what you can do to help ...
- Take direct action by supporting environmental groups that are on the ground doing clean up – like the National Wildlife Federation, the Audubon Society, or the Mobile Baykeepers.
- Volunteer your time in the cleanup effort in Louisiana, Missippippi, Florida, or Alabama.
- Talk to your kids in a way they can understand about the environment and how people impact it. This is something you can do to ensure against a future of more accidents like this.
- Please stay informed as this issue develops. There are many complex factors at play and the more you learn, the more you can help others understand and take appropriate action toward solutions.
- Speak up. Remind your state representatives that now more than ever we need to pass comprehensive legislation that provides America with cleaner and safer energy choices. There are many great online resources to help you voice your concerns like the NWF Action Center or Surfrider.org.

Thank you for making a difference!
