Whaling Walls
Perhaps the best way to teach someone about environmental conservation is to simply show them what they are conserving. The Wyland Foundation’s Whaling Wall murals have been raising environmental awareness about our undersea world for twenty-five years. These 100 life-size depictions of migrating gray whales, breaching humpbacks, blue whales, and other marine life are viewed by an estimated 1 billion people each year, and have become treasured landmarks in cities from Chicago to Nice to Auckland. All of the Wyland Foundation’s Whaling Wall murals are painted in life-size dimensions to help people understand and appreciate the true scale of these magnificent creatures. The Foundation’s mural projects can be found in more than 70 cities throughout the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and Japan. Wyland plans to paint his 100th Whaling Wall, ''Hands Across the Oceans,'' in Beijing, China preceding the 2008 Olympics. ''If people see the beauty in nature, they will work to preserve it.'' - Wyland |
